So what is Know Yourself?

“Know Yourself is a 12-part adventure series that is a perfect gift idea for kids 7-12 years old.

The new Know Yourself Adventure Series, delivered monthly, contains a year’s worth of original comic books, science projects, historical lessons, and healthy recipes, all designed to give children the information they need to learn about the vital systems of the body, while also bringing hours of productive entertainment to their families.

The year-long adventure introduces a different system of the human body each month starting with the five senses and progressively builds on the previous month’s learning. Over the course of the year, kids will receive creative content that helps them explore the skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, digestive, immune systems, and more.”

The box! And a t-shirt!

DSC_0637

I honestly was not expecting a t-shirt in this box! This one is so soft and I love the design – it’s nerdy and educational… aka my favorite. XD Plus the hashtag validates it all. Whoever designed this is absolutely fantastic. 😀 I think a certain Dr. Temperance Brennan from the hit TV show “Bones” would love this too.

Your guide to all the awesomeness in this box!

First destination… Ancient Greece! The box is so well-made and perfect to store everything after you’re done exploring for the day.

And what’s inside the box? It’s all written right here. 😀

A world map! This is great to put up on your kid’s bedroom wall (or play room wall) so that they can track where each box takes them and where they’ve “traveled” to.

The adventure guide for this first box! This is chock-full of awesome information such as healthy recipes from Greece, activities for the senses, and history facts.

DSC_0649

The first pages show exactly where Greece is so that you can track it on your explorer world map.

DSC_0652

These pages show: a) an activity you can do with taste and b) history facts about Ancient Greece. It’s a great way to get kids excited about learning things they might not otherwise encounter on a daily basis!

DSC_0653

These pages show: a) the profile of one of the main characters that will be accompanying you on this 12-month journey and b) spoiler for the next box’s destination – Russia!

I used to collect stickers as a kid (and… I kind of still do!) so I would have been ecstatic to receive a sheet of stickers that had all of the characters on it. You can even use them to tell a story.

Without a doubt the best item in the box: the full-color comic book!

“Each month’s Adventure contains an issue of Time Skaters that introduces kids to a different system of the body and a different location around the world. All of Adventure One comes packed inside a pencil box designed to last, and keen eyes might notice that with Adventure Two and Three, we’ve dared to think outside the box.”

A sneak-peek into the comic and the art work/content are both fantastic. I loved reading as a kid and actually didn’t read a lot of comics, but if your kid doesn’t love reading, an educational comic might help to pique his/her interest! This could be the start of something beautiful.

And now let’s get into the box itself!

DSC_0660

Putty – This is to encourage the development of touch.

DSC_0661

Egg shaker – This is to engage the sense of hearing. (I probably would have driven my parents crazy playing with this thing, haha – but it’s crazy fun to shake!)

DSC_0663

Invisible Ink Pens – For those secret messages. Each pen’s cap has a special blue light to reveal the ink’s message.

DSC_0665

Know Yourself Mini Notebooks – So that you can take notes and have something to write those secret messages in.

I wrote something here…

And boom! XD

Mini Magnifying Glass – For sight! (not for frying ants)

Empty plastic vials – These are to be used to create your own scent box! Instructions below.

I’m actually really interested in that super taster experiment because I like to think that I have a pretty good sense of taste and I’d like to see some real proof to back it up! I’ll just have to run to the store to grab some food dye because we don’t have any of that in the house. XD

Overall enjoyment: So much stuff, I wouldn’t even know where to start! I think that there is just so much for your kid to enjoy and each activity is short enough that they won’t lose interest before the task is completed. Better yet, it’ll promote spending time together. 😀

But my favorite things about this box is that is that each box will be themed so every month will be a brand new adventure and that Know Yourself is dedicated to promoting self-literacy! The comic book can be a great bedtime story over the nights of the week to keep the excitement going and I have to say that each item included in the box was of good quality.
